Yes! You can import any png or jpg in 2D Free Draw mode. Check out the tutorial here:

Pencil does support MX Ink, but currently in a limited capacity. You can draw digitally with it if you enable it within the experimental tab within Free Draw Mode

While tracing is a helpful step in gaining confidence with drawing, that’s not what Pencil’s lessons are about! The digital paper overlay is a powerful tool to help you understand how to draw.
Lesson steps venture into filling, erasing, drawing from observation, or even adding a little creative flair of your own! We walk you through the concepts, and teach you all the fundamentals you need with or without the lines.
Your tiny instructor, Leo, is always at your side teaching you important drawing tidbits. Visual hints are occasionally provided to guide you along.
The overlay can be turned on or off at any time, allowing you to follow the lessons purely by observing and drawing the reference, if you prefer.

Basic drawing and shading techniques are covered, plus there’s an entire Academy chapter on light and shadow. Other concepts include using a grid, foreshortening, breaking subjects down into basic shapes, perceiving patterns, envelopes, construction based off of reference, 1- and 2-point perspective, and so much more!
